Simply put, Macanese cuisine is Portuguese cuisine blended with Macau's own flavor and style. When the Portuguese came to Macau during the 18th century, they brought with them pepper barbecue, curry, spices, herbs and shrimp paste that they found in Africa, India, and Malaysia; and added onto fresh vegetables, meat, seafood, and poultry. Ancient Portuguese and Asian unique cooking methods were used to create one of a kind dishes that became the present Macanese cuisine in Portuguese style.
